i learned that there were some really sick people back in the day. the black plague was no joke! can you imagine having to basically sit around and have to wait for your death to come after you found out you caught the plague? and i thought that swine was bad!
we also discussed the effects that the black plague had on the renaissance period. a disease altering whole time periods? WOW! however i think things changed for the better. i mean had it not been for the plague, a lot of peasants wouldn't have moved up to that deluxe apartment in the sky lol. seriously the plague did give them more opportunities to become priests, to have more money and land, etc. the knights did have it a little harder however. they were completely eliminated and replaced. i can't say that i feel sorry for them, after all they savage beasts who thought that any death was a good death. REALLY?
we kind of brushed over how the woman's role was viewed after the plague as well. i can't say that much happened for the ladies, however, with women like Cereta in the spotlight, women were shown that it was okay to want and demand more out of life like a proper education, for example. She also showed that was ok to defend oneself against a man (love that).
all in all the first week wasn't as bad as i had expected (hope i didn't speak too soon)
